A successful career woman who was diagnosed with Stage Two Breast Cancer in 2017 wants to inspire others, stating that there is life after treatment.

Kelly Atkinson, was diagnosed with breast cancer aged just 39, at the time she worked as a Dental Practice Manager but decided to take early redundancy when she was diagnosed.

After undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Kelly said she didn’t know what she wanted to do but she wanted to do something that she would enjoy.

Aiden Atkinson, Kelly’s son, was at college at the time studying Digital Marketing, but decided to start a new business with his mum, called Scents @ No3.

The mother and son purchased wax and equipment and started experimenting at home in their kitchen creating wax scents and exploring different methods.

In October 2020, the family opened their first unit in Little Hulton.

The business grew at a fast pace meaning Kelly’s husband, Stephen, had to quit his day job and join the team.

Within six months, Kelly’s sister, Sarah Howe, joined the team alongside Aiden’s partner, Cheyanne Martin-Barkess.

A new unit was opened in June 2021, as the business expanded and became a huge success.

Scents @ No3 unit is now located at Gladys street, Moses Gate and the business has more than 25k followers on Facebook, 800 five star reviews on the website and on average they now receive 700 + orders a week.

Kelly said she wants to inspire other women and show them not all cancer stories are bad.

She said: “I’m just so proud of the family as a whole. It is something that just started so small, that grew.

“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after treatment but I wanted to do something that I knew I would enjoy and something for me.

“I wanted to show other women that normally when you hear cancer, you hear the bad stories but I wanted them to know there is life after treatment, you can still do something, your life isn’t over.

“Can I also thank the staff at the breast unit in Bolton for the amazing treatment I received and continue to receive throughout my journey and also my family for their continued love and support.”

The business sells handmade wax melts, wax burners, room sprays, gift sets and they also sell a range of bath and body products.
